On a personal level I have married, had two children, moved home four times, learnt Reiki, left my career and started a blog. But that’s just the outer change.
From within, I have examined and changed my beliefs, forgiven myself and my past, and realised that in order to create a life I want I have to start from the inside-out.
The inner change has happened more so in the last five years and accelerated after my youngest was born.
Globally, I have seen general unrest and uprising as people have been challenging those in power, the status quo and social injustices. I have seen, to name but a few, protests and movements such as the Arab Spring, #MeToo, and #BlackLivesMatter.
Climate change is at the forefront of people’s minds. Politics is being shaken at its very core (particularly in the UK and USA). Terrorism and gun crime ever more prevalent.
Yes, quite challenging and difficult times. However, these challenging times have created something quite remarkable. It has created pockets of humanity around the world dedicated to transforming lives for the better.
In particular this decade has seen the rise of the young, the female, the ethnic and the LBGT communities all creating significant positive change by standing up and telling their stories.
Malala Yousafzai, Stormzy, Greta Thunberg, Anick Soni, Shivya Nath and Amika George are just some of the very many taking a stand and using their influence on to create powerful change in the world.
How? By helping to raise awareness (largely through social media) and thereby elevating the consciousness of those around them.
Sometimes humanity experiences challenging and difficult times to bring out the good, the compassionate and the loving.
Whenever I get down from hearing about the struggles of others or of some terrible crime committed in the world, I always retreat within myself and ask the same question – how can we help to make this better?
Some people can achieve this on a mass scale like the influencers above, and some can do it on a much smaller scale, one life at a time. But both are as important as each other.
What has this decade been like for you? Have you experienced great change in your life, or have you felt stuck? Write out as much as you can remember, you might be surprised at what changes have actually taken place.
Looking ahead to the next year and the decade which will follow, I can’t help but wonder what might be in store.
I think the year 2020 could be a turning point for many of us. Into what I don’t know but I have always known that repeating number sequences hold special meanings. I have never lived, nor will live, through a year with a repeating number sequence like the 2020 we are all about to experience.
